Save, Save, Save

I just realized it has been way to long since my last post, and not to mention how Kimm has told me that I MUST blog, or else.

Bryan and I have been saving like mad. We are on Vacation in 21 days. Wow. I’m getting excited! One of my money saving techniques has been that I canceled my car insurance. I took the insurance off my car for the summer. I will save over $600 this summer alone, not to mention saving money on gas ($1.50/L!). I have been riding my bike to work basically everyday, it has been loads of fun. I do not call my self a hardcore cyclist, as I do have the option to drive the truck to work, but I will only use the truck when it is pissing rain outside. Which is understandable….

Bryan and I have made a pact, we both want to be more active after work instead of just sitting around watching T.V. I even canceled our cable (saving $60/month) as do we really need to be watching T.V.? When it is summertime and the fact that we spend more time playing video games than watching T.V.?

With all this money saving changes I still feel broke. I guess with the fact that I am so close to being out of debt and the fact that I hardly have anything major saved up for this vacation that I am going to be tapping into my Line of Credit for this vacation a little bit, and also the fact that I am planning on heading to school in September and that is going to cost money as well….. I know everything will turn out just right in the end.

New York City Here We Come

Things are really starting to come into place for our two week holiday in July. We are first heading to Toronto to visit with Bryan’s Dad, then flying down to NEW YORK CITY for four nights! I just got off Expedia.ca booking our hotel. We are staying in Queens and it is about a five minute walk to a subway station. We are planning on using the subway and buses as our main source to get around the city as it would be a lot cheaper than paying for cabs.

We plan on doing the whole tourist bit, except catching a show on Broadway (tickets are way to expensive). Going to the top of the Empire State Building, seeing the Status of Liberty, Ground Zero, Rockefeller Center, New York Aquarium, Central Park, Watch a Yankees Game in Yankee Stadium (July 23), Visit Time Square, etc… There is just so much to see and do in NYC it is going to be hard to organize it all but we will get to see everything we want to see and more!

This trip is going to be so memorable and exciting. We have not had a real holiday together ever. What I am looking forward to most is getting on the plane and taking off. I want to get away from it all so bad, I am already counting down the days until we leave.

I am still stuck between buying the New York Pass or not. Is it really worth it for the price? Do you have any tips or advice on visiting NYC? I want to make sure we do not forget anything important.

College Bound

I registered for College last week online. I am really starting to look forward to heading back to school in the evenings again, as much as it will take into my “free” time and my current workload I am ready for the challenge.

I will be taking one Child Psychology course which I need as a prerequisite in September. Then I am going to begin doing my Special Education Citation for Early Childhood Education the following semester (January 09). I do not think I will be finished everything until the December 2009! As the courses I need to take are not available during the summer semester. Mark your calenders everyone as there will be a big celebration in early January 2010 when I am FINISHED! (That is until I decide to head back to school to take yet another program in Special Education and take the Educational Assistant program! - I am just a school wanting to learn machine!)

Who would have known that when I first started doing my Early Childhood Education Program in 2003 that I would want to continue exploring and learning to expand on what I had learned though my experiences. When I started going to school to become an early childhood educator it was just “something to do” as I had wanted to get out of retail and find a career. I am proud to say, I have found my career and though my work experiences I know I want to work with children who require extra support. How I have grown.
