Blackcomb Adventures

This past Saturday Bryan and I woke up bright and early and heading up to Whistler for the day to do some snowboarding up on Blackcomb mountain. The drive was great, road conditions were excellent. Only had to stop a few times once for breakfast at Tim Hortons, and a few bathroom stops (I really should have taken the gravol before we left)…

When we finally arrived, we strapped on our boards, and headed straight up to the very top of the mountain. Where we rode hard all day long until we stopped for lunch. I nearly fell asleep at the table as I was so beat. It also did not help that I only had five hours of sleep the night before. The we continued to ride until it was closing time.

For Christmas Bryan had bought me a day lift ticket, so this day was sort of a date. It was great to get away just the two of us. We did invite some friends to come up with us but nobody called us. Whatever their loss. I have not had so much fun snowboarding in such a long time. The local mountains that I go to are nothing compared to world class Blackcomb.

The drive home was a little sketchy. The highway heading up there is currently being widened for the 2010 Olympic. The drive at night had me on edge the whole time. You would be driving and following the lines one minute, then the next your lane lines disappeared and seem to drive straight off a cliff, or into on coming traffic. No wounder there are so many deadly accidents there, you really have to be paying 110% of the time and absolutely no speeding. Yet there were a bunch of idiot drivers passing us, riding the ass of other cars, just being dangerous. We half expected to come across some of them a few minutes later ripped to shreds by a semi truck, or to have ripped a hole in the guard rail plunging down a cliff into the ocean. I’m happy we made it home safe.

I have uploaded all my Blackcomb pictures on to my flickr account. I will leave you with a few of my favorite shots taken that day.

All Moved In…

Why do I always wait so long to update my blog? I always start with, “A lot has happened…” and basically this one will be the same introduction.

A lot has happened since my last update. The day after we returned from our Vacation Bryan had found a rental unit for us. I had gone to check it out with him that very same night, and we signed the rental agreement then. Our move in date was set for Feb 1st, but we opted to move in Feb 9th simply because we still had all of February left at our old place, and it could give us enough time to recruit friends to help us move and to clean our old place out better.

Moving day was successful as moving days go. We have our living room set up, and dining area along with our bedroom. The den, bathroom and well every other nook and cranny is a complete mess with boxes stacked up everywhere. Our kitchen hopefully will be all set up in the next few days. It is so hard not being able to find anything!

I’ve been keeping myself busy with playing Wii (I bought that the same day of my previous post) until we got the internet and cable set up. Obviously our internet is working now. Once everything is unpacked I will post more picture on my flickr of our new place.

Also the Thursday night before we moved Bryan and I went up Snowboarding. It was awesome for the first run, and then I went to get onto the chairlift and some how managed to fall off the chair, twisting my foot in an unnatural way causing major pain to shoot up my whole body, all the while avoiding being smashed in the head by the chairlift I had fallen off of, as it passed over my body. I did not know if I was hurt or just embarrassed. I am going to say that I was both. I hobbled away in tears and headed to the bar. The next day my foot was bruised, I am happy that it was not worse as it certainly felt like it would be awful.

Feeling Lucky

I am feeling so lucky tonight, lucky to be alive. The city I live in has insanely bad drivers. We had been up snowboarding, having an excellent evening with friends. When we had finally arrived in into our city, which is an hour drive away from the mountain when we were nearly in two major accidents. It all started after seeing on two separate occasions, drivers changing across three highway lanes to head towards their exit they were missing, without signaling. We were joking about how that was horrible and dangerous to see and good thing we were nearly home.

The first close call happened at a major intersection just as we were entering into our city which had a set of train tracks close to the lights. The car in front of us stopped in the middle of the Yellow light at the last second, causing my friend to do some quick thinking as his breaks locked up and we were in a four wheel slide, he had managed to do a successful blind lane change and we stopped right next to the idiot driver. Of course fingering the idiot, and exchanging words of thankfulness to our driver for his quick thinking.

The second close call came not even five minutes later. We were driving down a main road, when all of a sudden from a side street came this Volkswagen Beattle. It had busted though a stop sign and turning right in front of us doing at least 60+ km (37+ mph) nearly hitting us on our front passanger side! At this point my friend driving was enraged, he did tailgate this person for a very short time, flashing his high beams and cursing out the window. He backed off as soon as I had asked him to as I was sitting in the front passenger seat and did not want to get into any sort of accident and also the fact that if the idiot driver slammed on their breaks and we hit them, then we would be at fault.

We drove another block and took one of the friends home. We all got out of the car and hugged each other, and said some word to whoever was looking out over us this evening. We took side streets home from there on, as we obviously did not want to come across any other drivers especially the horrible dangerous ones. I’m so thankful to be home in one piece, I’m heading to bed. That is if I can calm my beating heart.
