I am feeling so lucky tonight, lucky to be alive. The city I live in has insanely bad drivers. We had been up snowboarding, having an excellent evening with friends. When we had finally arrived in into our city, which is an hour drive away from the mountain when we were nearly in two major accidents. It all started after seeing on two separate occasions, drivers changing across three highway lanes to head towards their exit they were missing, without signaling. We were joking about how that was horrible and dangerous to see and good thing we were nearly home.
The first close call happened at a major intersection just as we were entering into our city which had a set of train tracks close to the lights. The car in front of us stopped in the middle of the Yellow light at the last second, causing my friend to do some quick thinking as his breaks locked up and we were in a four wheel slide, he had managed to do a successful blind lane change and we stopped right next to the idiot driver. Of course fingering the idiot, and exchanging words of thankfulness to our driver for his quick thinking.
The second close call came not even five minutes later. We were driving down a main road, when all of a sudden from a side street came this Volkswagen Beattle. It had busted though a stop sign and turning right in front of us doing at least 60+ km (37+ mph) nearly hitting us on our front passanger side! At this point my friend driving was enraged, he did tailgate this person for a very short time, flashing his high beams and cursing out the window. He backed off as soon as I had asked him to as I was sitting in the front passenger seat and did not want to get into any sort of accident and also the fact that if the idiot driver slammed on their breaks and we hit them, then we would be at fault.
We drove another block and took one of the friends home. We all got out of the car and hugged each other, and said some word to whoever was looking out over us this evening. We took side streets home from there on, as we obviously did not want to come across any other drivers especially the horrible dangerous ones. I’m so thankful to be home in one piece, I’m heading to bed. That is if I can calm my beating heart.
