Feeling Lucky

I am feeling so lucky tonight, lucky to be alive. The city I live in has insanely bad drivers. We had been up snowboarding, having an excellent evening with friends. When we had finally arrived in into our city, which is an hour drive away from the mountain when we were nearly in two major accidents. It all started after seeing on two separate occasions, drivers changing across three highway lanes to head towards their exit they were missing, without signaling. We were joking about how that was horrible and dangerous to see and good thing we were nearly home.

The first close call happened at a major intersection just as we were entering into our city which had a set of train tracks close to the lights. The car in front of us stopped in the middle of the Yellow light at the last second, causing my friend to do some quick thinking as his breaks locked up and we were in a four wheel slide, he had managed to do a successful blind lane change and we stopped right next to the idiot driver. Of course fingering the idiot, and exchanging words of thankfulness to our driver for his quick thinking.

The second close call came not even five minutes later. We were driving down a main road, when all of a sudden from a side street came this Volkswagen Beattle. It had busted though a stop sign and turning right in front of us doing at least 60+ km (37+ mph) nearly hitting us on our front passanger side! At this point my friend driving was enraged, he did tailgate this person for a very short time, flashing his high beams and cursing out the window. He backed off as soon as I had asked him to as I was sitting in the front passenger seat and did not want to get into any sort of accident and also the fact that if the idiot driver slammed on their breaks and we hit them, then we would be at fault.

We drove another block and took one of the friends home. We all got out of the car and hugged each other, and said some word to whoever was looking out over us this evening. We took side streets home from there on, as we obviously did not want to come across any other drivers especially the horrible dangerous ones. I’m so thankful to be home in one piece, I’m heading to bed. That is if I can calm my beating heart.

The Loot

Christmas was a great, I really do hope everyone had a great day and did not go totally insane. It is over and completed for this year, just in time for everyone to start preparing for Christmas next year. Only around 365 days to go.

While opening up gifts Christmas morning I got the major case of the grumpy kitten. I became upset over the fact that Bryan had only given me two gifts, one of which was a life pass to Whistler/Blackcomb mountain to be used at a later date, and the other was a big toblerone. When I had gotten him many smaller items such as DVD’s, lawn sprinkler, Opti-Mash Prime. I believe that all my emotions came from the fact that we never had dinner the night previously with all of our running around we never did stick around anyone’s house long enough to have dinner.

I guess Christmas does not come from a store and is not measured by the amount of gifts one receives. I am very happy with everything I have received. Some of the top items I got were:

  • Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallow
  • Whistler/Blackcomb Mountain fast track lift pass
  • Frying Pan
  • Various Gift Cards to Chapters, Earls, Ciniplex, Science World and the Vancouver Aquarium.
  • Tea set from my boss.
  • Cash from Bryan’s dad. He has never given me a present before. I plan to buy some good shoes.

Merry Christmas!

First off I would like to start by saying “Merry Christmas” and Happy Holidays to everyone. Tomorrow Santa and presents.

What is everyones plans for this fun exciting time? Bryan and I are planning on heading to my aunt and uncles house for a little while tonight, then we are going to dash away and head out to Bryan’s aunt and uncles house for some more holiday cheer. Only to come home late, and to wake up early for present opening (I’m so excited!) and head over to Bryan’s mom’s place for breakfast/brunch, then head over to my mom’s house for present opening, then that night my mom is doing Christmas Dinner. It sounds like a lot, and it really is a lot. So many things to do, so little time.

Christmas still is not the same for me. It has been six years since my dad passed away from Cancer. I miss him everyday, the pain still lingers,  but it really is not as strong this year. Just the feeling of missing him and everything remains. Christmas has never been the same, and I do not think it ever will.

I really need to get off the computer and get ready for work. I have a half day to work today, then I am off somewhere around 3pm.  Yippie ….
