I feel awful. It is already seven days into November and I have yet to buy myself a Poppy. I have always worn my Poppy proudly in the days leading up to November 11, which is Remembrance Day. I will go searching for a Poppy tomorrow. I normally get one from a Cadet, but it is always more memorable and special if you manage to find a retired veteran who is volunteering his time.
I have very fond memories of assemblies in School which paid tribute to the fallen soldiers. My favourite part of it would be the reading of the poem “In Flanders Fields“. It is one of my favourite poems that I have ever read, it is so moving and extremly powerful. It really describes what was happening around John McCrae at the time he had written it. What is one of your favourite poems and Why?
