Week one of my practicum is over. It has been going alright, but just at times I feel like I am not doing enough. My first visit with my practicum instructor went really well, she saw a bunch of positives and nothing really that I should be working on. Plus the discussion with my practicum teacher (the one who works at the center I am at) went well and she has nothing negative to say.
During week two I am to lead at least 5 circles. I have not done a proper “circle” with children in a long time. Plus with the center I am at they are very emergent and their circles are mainly group discussion time. I have one question for Tuesdays circle activity thought up, but I really need to work on my open ended questions. Those are the type of questions that make people think, and there are no right or wrong answers. The regular staff when she does her circle activities the discussions go for at least 15min, I am worried that for some reason I will lose children’s interests. I could always read a story, or even do some songs with them. Hopefully I am able to remember and even know the songs they want to sing.
During week Three I am to think up a few various curriculum activities and bring items and set up things all over the class room. If the children are into a certain thing, some how bring that topic of interest in to every different area.
Currently the children seem to be slightly interested in their plants which they started growing with another practicum student a few weeks ago. I am hoping that their interest grows with this theme, and does not change. I am wanting to move in the direction of gardens and growing.
I am keeping my fingers crossed that all goes well though out this whole practicum. This is my last course that I need to do. It has been well over two years since my last practicum and almost two and a half years since my last E.C.E. course. I do feel a little rusty.
